Carrick-On-Suir Triathlon, 2008

The Course:

First run in 1994, the Carrick Tri is one of the most established events on the annual race calendar. Set along the banks of the River Suir, and nestled between the Comeragh Mountains and Slievenamon, the event is renown for the beauty of its surrounds and fairness as a triathlon course.

Swim:
The swim takes place in the River Suir and starts 750m upriver of the transition area. The Tryathlon will commence 500m upriver of the transition area.

Cycle:
The cycle route is fast with flat course aside from a small hill at the start. The road surface is very good apart from a poor stretch of a couple kilometres at the half way point.

Run:
The run is a one-lap course, the first portion using the same road as the cycle leg. At the halfway point competitors turn onto a scenic river path to the finish line.

Transition:
Transition is situated in a scenic and spacious park right between the river and the cycle/run routes.

Club Events

3-Hill Cycle Challenge, Portlaw, Sunday May 27

This fun event is not a race but a time trial of sorts and should be within all our members' capabilities! Each rider will have their time recorded on each of the three hills (Chapel Hill, Sallahene Hill & Scrouty Hill) with some welcome rest time in between as members make their way to the next one. Each hill takes about 15 minutes worth of effort to cycle up it and the base of each are all within a couple of minutes of each other.

Overall prizes will be awarded on an age-group basis with special prizes for the best times on each individual hill.

Showers are available afterwards in the local soccer club followed by soup and sandwiches in the Cotton Mill.
